Jessica Alba Hosted Baby Shower

I am so honored to have been chosen as the graphic designer for the Austin baby shower event, hosted by celebrity Jessica Alba. Alba's The Honest Company picked four “deserving moms-to-be” nationwide with the baby showers taking plan in Austin, New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. For the Austin party, The Simplifiers designed the entire baby shower around the “vintage garden party” theme and the “bloom” Honest Company diaper pattern. It was exciting to be a part of the event but with only 11 days notice, and changes to the stationery occurring up until 2 days before the event, it was a whirlwind.

To go with the vintage garden party vibe, I designed custom-printed lace handkerchiefs with the menu printed on it. Each handkerchief was folded in a diagonal style with satin blue ribbon tied around and place card affixed with a mini silver clothespin. Each guest received a "Well Wishes for the Baby" activity card as well...something Chelsee could take home with her and read at a later date (maybe during midnight baby feedings!). Finally, I designed a welcome sign for the shower and menu tent cards.

What a fun event to participate in. Congrats to Chelsee and John! I'm sure they can't wait to meet baby Harper.

Baby Announcement

When my friend, Paula, hired me to design her baby announcements for her third child (finally a boy!), I was extremely excited. You see, Paula is also a graphic designer. But with three kids, she didn't have time to create something custom. Talk about pressure for me! But it was also a wonderful compliment that she trusted me to design it. As a graphic designer, Paula definitely knew what she wanted so this was 100% a collaboration. Congratulations to Paula and John...what a beautiful family.

First Birthday Party!

I can't resist posting my baby's first birthday party! We had so much fun planning and celebrating. I decided on a circus theme because we call Porter our "chunky monkey" and I had to incorporate monkeys in some way. I designed a vintage looking circus poster for his invitation (complete with a juggling monkey). I rolled up the invitation into a scroll and placed it into a mailing tube, which I customized by wrapping vintage circus paper around and affixing a kraft label for the mailing addresses.

On the day of the party, I used the same design to create food tent cards that announced "Popcorn, Get Your Popcorn" and "Get Your Fresh Squeezed Lemonade". I had a sign announcing the party on our door..."Welcome to the Greatest Show on Earth...Porter is one!". We served popcorn, corn dogs, mac n cheese, lemonade and a veggie pizza that was decorated to look like a clown (oh and Purple Haze beer, which is a play on Porter's name).  For added fun, we had a bouncy house, ring toss, clown noses, and "Welcome to the Carnival" banner (to put your face in for photo ops). The kiddos took home fun animal sunglasses and animal crackers (with a tag that said "Thanks for Monkeying Around with Porter!"). We had a blast, but more importantly, we were able to celebrate with family and friends. Happy birthday, Porter. I can't believe you're one already!

Maddy's First Birthday Invitation

I was lucky enough to work with Holly again designing her daughter's first birthday party invitations! I worked with Holly in 2008 on her wedding invitations (they got married in Mexico so we put the beautiful ornate doors of the venue on the gatefold invitation...http://www.theinvitingpear.com/images/Holly_lg.jpg). Based on Maddy's adorable polka dot birthday outfit, her invitations were born. Sounds like the party is going to be a blast. Happy Birthday, Maddy!
